Han Solo Gets An Origins Story In The Second Star Wars Anthology Film To Be Directed By Chris Miller & Phil Lord

Straight from the horse’s mouth, Lucasfilms announced on Starwars.com the second installment of the Star Wars Anthology films will be directed by only the most sought after directing duo in Hollywood today, Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Best known for their works The LEGO Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and of the course the 21 Jump Street reboots. The directors were quoted,

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

No title has been released yet for the film but the screenplay is written by Star Wars veteran Larry Kasdan joined by his son Jon Kasdan. Larry co-wrote the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens. Jon’s credits include In the Land of Women, Freaks and Geeks, Dawson’s Creek, and The First Time, which he wrote and directed.

“We’re so excited to be working with Chris and Phil, who will bring a fresh new dimension to the Star Wars universe. They’re two of the smartest, funniest and most original filmmakers around, and the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy.” says the Kasdans.

According to the announcement, “The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.”

Egertonhan solo 1As to who will play the scruffy-looking nerf herder? Nothing has been announced but there are rumors that Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) might be it. Who do you think should play our favorite scoundrel?

The film is set for release in May of 2018.
