Extremely Underrated Comedy From The 90’s: Romy & Michele

Romy_and_michele_s_high_school_reunionI know, it’s not a new movie and it’s not even new news but I just watched Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion again and it was awesome. I had forgotten how truly funny it really was. Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudro were absolutely spectacular. There’s something about comedies where the characters are being played straight but the situations just makes them funny. The movie came out in 1997, the year I graduated high school so the idea of a high school reunion was very real to me and something I wasn’t looking forward to. I imagined the same awkwardness to happen to me but luckily it didn’t. I was definitely not a part of the “it” crowd but unlike Romy and Michele I didn’t have a BFF to be “normal” with. (Small violin playing.)

When I watched the movie the first time (back in the 90’s) I thought Romy and Michele’s outfits were a little “out there”. Now, after watching it over, I see how people dressed and it just makes me cringe! I was a teenager in that decade and it didn’t seem so off putting when I was experiencing it. I imagine people who lived in the 70’s feel the same way about that decade’s outfits.

It’s also rate R. Why? Apparently Jeanne said “fuck” a couple of times which deemed it rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. If you haven’t seen it, you have got to see it. Check out the trailer.
